Ravenswood City School District Celebrates Opening of Los Robles–Ronald McNair Field

Ravenswood City School District (Ravenswood) is proud to celebrate the opening of a new, high-quality sports field at Los Robles–Ronald McNair, completed in time for Super Bowl XL festivities.

“This field has been six years in the making,” said Board Chair Tamara Sobomehin. “We are thrilled to open an excellent field for our students and community. This project reflects years of tireless work by Ravenswood staff to coordinate donors and partners—and was completed without the use of local bond dollars.”

“Another multi-million-dollar Ravenswood project finished on time and on budget,” said Facilities Subcommittee Member Jenny Bloom. “Over the past five years, Ravenswood has secured more than $45 million in philanthropic support for facilities improvements, in addition to $200 million invested by our community through our bond program.”

“This project involved more than a dozen partners, reflecting the strength of our East Palo Alto and Belle Haven community,” said Superintendent Gina Sudaria. “This field would not have been possible without their collaboration.”

The project was made possible through generous contributions from the Bay Area Host Committee, San Mateo County, the City of East Palo Alto, Representative Kevin Mullin, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and the Ravenswood Education Foundation. The field opening will be celebrated with a community kickoff event coordinated by City Year, Kidango, the 49ers Foundation, and the City of East Palo Alto. The field is now open for public reservations and after-hours community use.

“We are committed to using bond dollars efficiently to improve classrooms, while leveraging philanthropy to enhance outdoor play and athletic spaces,” said Assistant Superintendent William Eger.
