Superintendent's message

Welcome to Ravenswood City School District. Whether you are a longstanding member of our community or considering joining us for the first time, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to all of our students, families, teachers, staff, and community partners.

At Ravenswood, we believe in the power of collective voices. As we journey together through the year, we are committed to fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusivity. Your thoughts, ideas, and dreams are the building blocks of our thriving community, and we encourage each of you to actively participate in shaping the future of our district.

Our dedication to knowledge and growth knows no limits. Throughout the year, we will provide diverse and rigorous opportunities for enrichment and development, before, during, and after school. We firmly believe that learning is a lifelong process, and we are excited to explore these enriching experiences with you.

This year, we are committed to three focus goals:

Empowering Literacy
We want students to be powerful readers and writers who use literacy across content areas to make meaning and share their ideas.
We aim to ensure that each child becomes a strong reader and writer and literate by the 3rd grade. We want them to develop excellent reading skills to understand different texts deeply and express their thoughts clearly through writing. But it doesn't stop there – we aim to integrate literacy skills across all subjects so that each child can excel in science, history, and more. By empowering them with literacy, we help each child gain a deeper appreciation for learning and effectively communicate their ideas.

Embracing Mathematical Identity
We want students to see themselves as mathematicians and use their skills, a deep understanding of content, and strong practices in their learning and work.
We aim for each child to see themselves as capable mathematicians and numerate by the 3rd grade. Our focus is on building their confidence and skills in math. We aim to teach math in a way that goes beyond memorizing formulas and instead focuses on understanding the concepts deeply. By nurturing their mathematical identity, each child will approach math with a positive mindset and become better problem solvers and critical thinkers, ready to face challenges in school and real-life situations.

Building School Community and Agency
We want students to feel safe at, connected to, and trust the school community, providing them with agency and a sense of belonging.
Our district is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for each child, family and team member. We want them to feel safe, connected, and trusted within the school community. We foster positive relationships between teachers, students, and families to ensure each child feels a strong sense of belonging. Moreover, we value our children’s input and opinions. By giving children a sense of agency, we allow them to be active participants in their education, making choices and contributing to the school community.

In every student’s educational experience, we celebrate the importance of nurturing their minds and spirits. From the early years to the milestones ahead, we are committed to creating an environment where each young mind feels supported, encouraged, and motivated to reach their fullest potential.

We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Your dedication and passion are the driving force behind the success of our district. Together, let us continue to create an environment where every member of our Ravenswood family thrives.

Warmly,

Gina Sudaria
