Early Childhood
ONGOING INITIATIVES
ONGOING INITIATIVES
Ravenswood is proud to serve all four year-olds in the district through our expanded Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program. In addition to offering free full-day TK, other early childhood initiatives have also been an important part of our work.
In August 2024, Ravenswood City School District Board envisioned and supported this new initiative in collaboration with the Ravenswood Early Childhood Collaborative. Ravenswood Early Learning (REL) aims to provide high-quality education and care for all children ages 0-5 in our community. REL is robustly engaged in simplifying families' access to high-quality and affordable ECE programs, facilitating ECE funding and facilities projects, and building providers’ capacity to staff and run high quality ECE programs.
Since REL’s founding we’ve constructed a pioneering online Ravenswood Early Learning EC Navigator, the “Google maps of ECE”, facilitated in-person family and provider services navigation, expanded collaborative meetings’ attendance, cultivated a community of supporters and strong community partnerships including facilitating enhancing providers’ outdoor learning spaces and tree canopy.
School Readiness
We welcome students and families before their first day at Ravenswood to help them feel prepared and excited for school. Example initiatives have included hosting a "Countdown to TK/Kindergarten" event for our newest students and families, sharing resources with the community on transitioning to elementary school, collaboratig with preschool providers, and inviting students and families for open house events and classroom tours at our sites.
Community Partnerships
We have formed the Ravenswood Early Childhood Collaborative, a partnership between the district andcenter-based, home-based, parent participation & Head Start infant, toddler, & preschool programs, as well as private & charter TK/K. This group convenes regularly to share resources and discuss opportunities to collectively support young children and their families in our community (including school readiness initiatives, professional learning for staff, and community outreach efforts.)
Workforce Development
Our Ravenswood Early Childhood Collaborative won a state grant of nearly $400K. One of hte initiatives the funds are being used for is to recruit local residents to the field and support their education and career development.
Lease Agreements
We partner with early childhood providers in our community through favorable lease agreements so they can operate their programs in our facilities, including All Five (located at our Belle Haven campus).
Early Childhood Needs Assessments
Early Childhood Needs Assessments
As we work with our community to create the Ravenswood Promise, our commitment and plan to offer an exceptional education for all Ravenswood students, we also recognize that early childhood education and childcare are an important driver of student success.
