Early Childhood

ONGOING INITIATIVES

ONGOING INITIATIVES

As of the 2022-23 school year, Ravenswood is proud to serve all four year-olds in the district through our expanded Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program. In addition to offering free full-day TK, other early childhood initiatives have also been an important part of our work.

School Readiness
We welcome students and families before their first day at Ravenswood to help them feel prepared and excited for school. Example initiatives have included hosting a "Countdown to TK/Kindergarten" event for our newest students and families, sharing resources with the community on transitioning to elementary school, and inviting students and families for open house events and classroom tours at our sites.

Community Partnerships
We have formed the Ravenswood Early Childhood Collaborative, a partnership between the district and local preschool & Head Start programs. This group convenes regularly to share resources and discuss opportunities to collectively support young children and their families in our community (including school readiness initiatives, professional learning for staff, and community outreach efforts.)

Workforce Development
Our Ravenswood Early Childhood Collaborative won a state grant of nearly $400K over 3 years. These funds are being used to recruit local residents to the field and support their education and career development.

Lease Agreements
We partner with several early childhood providers in our community through low- or no-cost lease agreements so they can operate their programs in our facilities. These include All Five (located at our Belle Haven campus), and Family Connections and Izzi (located at our Los Robles-Ronald McNair campus).
2023 Early Childhood Needs Assessment

2023 Early Childhood Needs Assessment

As we work with our community to create the Ravenswood Promise, our commitment and plan to offer an exceptional education for all Ravenswood students, we also recognize that early childhood education and childcare are an important driver of student success.

To better understand early childhood needs in our community, we conducted surveys and focus groups with 250+ Ravenswood families in Fall 2023. This research will help us make decisions about program design and funding in the future.
